Jorhat Cancer Centre observes World Cancer Day

28 February 2023

World Cancer Day is observed worldwide on February 4 every year to raise awareness for a cancer-free society. Aligned with the theme for this year – Close the Care Gap – Jorhat Cancer Centre organised several programmes to raise awareness and educate people about the early signs, treatment, and preventive measures for cancer. The programme held at Dhekogorah Gram Panchayat educated the attendees about the risks associated with cancer and the precautions that one can take to minimize the risk of developing the disease. The participants of the programme held at Bhogamukh Block Primary Health Center (BPHC), benefitted from the education and awareness campaign provided by the guests and speakers. Free screening and other services were provided to the participants. A workshop and screening programme were organised for the students of Kaziranga University to educate them about the risk factors, symptoms, and treatment of cancer. Training was also imparted on conducting self-examination for detection of breast and oral cancers. The team also highlighted the facilities of the centre including screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The team's efforts and commitment to the cause of World Cancer Day is commendable and it will certainly help in raising awareness amongst the people.
